Smart Media Manager is a Joomla 5 system plugin that replaces the default media manager popup with a fast, modern interface — without replacing Joomla's own media component.

    • Fixed: umlauts in file and folder names are now transliterated (ä→ae, ö→oe,
      ü→ue, ß→ss) instead of being replaced by hyphens — including macOS-style
      decomposed umlauts. Affects upload, rename and folder creation.

    • Fixed: the AJAX endpoint could be reached without being logged in. All requests now require an administrator session with media management rights 
    • Fixed: added CSRF protection to all file operations 
    • Fixed: files could be uploaded with any extension if the content looked like an image. Extensions are now always validated 
    • Fixed: path handling in the backup restore functions could reach files outside the site root
    • Fixed: the maximum upload width and height settings had no effect
    • Fixed: the download key entered in the plugin settings was never applied to the update site

    • Double-click replace mode: double-clicking an existing image in the editor reopens SMM pre-filled with its source, alt text, caption, alignment, and width for direct replace/edit.
    • New width picker on image insert (Auto/full width, 75%, 50%, 33%, 25%).
    • Fix: alignment buttons in the insert dialog switched to overlay-scoped selectors (prevented mis-clicks when multiple overlays were open).
